We're proud to announce the new

Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center presented by the Milkey Family Foundation

Fall 2019 – The Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center at the new St. Pete Pier is getting close to completion. We’re excited to present a new public face for Tampa Bay Watch in early 2020 that emphasizes public engagement of our local environment. The facility will elevate awareness of Tampa Bay Watch to our local community as well as tourists from around the world! It’s estimated that the Discovery Center will host over 100,000 visitors in its first year alone!

Located approximately halfway down the new St Pete Pier’s over-water walkway, the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center will create a dynamic visitor experience which includes a 2,000 square foot exhibition hall that will tell the story of Tampa Bay and bring the history and recovery of this unique ecosystem, and the role of Tampa Bay Watch, to visitors from around the corner and around the world. The focal point of the exhibit hall is a centerpiece aquarium that showcases many of the species found in our local waters. Touch tanks, interactive displays, video presentations, and docent-led tours will combine for an unforgettable experience and a newfound respect for our local environment.

The Discovery Center also includes 1,000 square feet of classroom space to accommodate field trip and summer camp opportunities to students of all ages. Future plans include water-borne Eco-tours in the Discovery Center’s new floating classroom. The latest phase of the construction includes the “wet classroom” seats and deck down to the water’s edge which will be used for seating for students during educational lectures. The majority of the exterior work is complete and now the focus throughout the rest of 2019 will be on interior and installation of our exciting interactive exhibits.
