Tampa Bay Watch is recruiting 20-30 volunteers to build oyster reef balls at Tampa Bay Watch Marine Education Center, 3000 Pinellas Bayway South, Tierra Verde, FL 33715. The minimum age to participate is sixteen years old since this is a physical project which requires bending, stooping, and some heavy lifting.

Join us on Earth Day at our longest-term restoration project! It'll involve shoveling fossilized shell into mesh bags and transporting them to be installed on the shoreline to create a series of oyster bars. Volunteers are encouraged to work in pairs to take turns shoveling and tying the mesh bags. In addition to shoveling, volunteers are needed to pass the bags for the installation. The minimum age to participate is 15 years old. Driver's license information (full name including middle initial, DL #, state who issued DL) is required one week prior to the project date for security clearance.

This effort will help restore lost habitat by promoting new oyster growth, ultimately improving water quality and providing food sources and habitat for many species. Click here to learn more.

Be a part of our longest-term restoration project! The goal is to stabilize the eroding shoreline, provide hard bottom habitats for fish and wildlife resources and promote water quality improvements in the Tampa Bay ecosystem.

The minimum age to participate is 16 years old as this is a heavy project as reef balls weigh 200 pounds each. Two people share the weight of each reef ball at a time to install it on the shoreline. Learn more about living shorelines.
